Episode Three Overview

The third instalment of MASTER BUILD: The Real World of Building and Renovating continues to impress. More innovative and beautiful homes were brought to light, with the deserved acknowledgement for the builders who constructed them.

First up on the list was Joey and Alice Pamment from Pamment Projects with ‘The Bakery’. This Newtown Warehouse Renovation was originally a corner store and a bakery, being completely restored, renovated, reconfigured, and built in under 9 months. Joey and Alice were working with the client from day one – even helping them purchase the property. Working with Sydney Inner-West Council, this is a unique and beautiful build sympathetic to it’s Inner-West heritage.

“To us it’s like a Moroccan riad - there’s a central courtyard and a water feature ( being the pool). It creates a really tranquil ambience.” – Alice Pamment

The next project featured was also located within the Inner-West, this time in Marrickville.

Shane Ryan from Prestige Habitats worked with the owners/architect to create a clever and light-filled home. Borrowing shapes and colours inspired and reused from the 1970’s properties around the area.

A particularly impressive feature was a rooftop garden; which provides heat and noise insulation and took an abundance of skill to construct.

“The most striking part of this build is how much you feel like you’re part of nature, yet you’re actually in a bustling inner city area.”

– Tim Ross

In a break from the home tours, Tim Ross visits Andrew Payton – last year’s Young Builder of the Year. He provides some useful information on  Cross Laminated Timber,  which uses waste products and second/third grade timber to create a superior structure put together in a remarkably efficient time frame.

Tim also visits Dele Omisore from Master Builders Insurance Brokers (MBIB) who explains Home Warranty Insurance and all that goes along with it when building or renovating.

Next up on the episode Liv checks out the 105 home Display Village in Box Hill and talks about the to the quality of display homes with Philip Jones from Homeworld.

“Display Homes offer an incredible resource when you’re wanting to build. You can literally step through your future home.” – Liv Phyland

We catch a glimpse into how diverse display homes can be; providing custom features to choose from depending on your location and lifestyle and in the future, where you can visit on site, ask questions, and find inspiration for both building and decorating.

The last home of the episode was built by Alex McDonald from Chateau Architects + Builders.

Featuring LED lights situated in a shadow line of the staircase which provide the illusion that they’re floating, a DJ deck and a steam shower, this home has all you could need and more.”

This 70+ year old Northbridge home is envy inducing with a tennis court, pool, pavilion, spa, and views of the bridge and city.

Alex talks about the benefit of having builders involved from initial concept to completion, as well as the difficulties in location and building integrity for this job.

“A family business for over 50 years -  they look after everything from design, to building and landscaping so as to optimise your budget and your lifestyle.” – Tim Ross
